I find we have a damn if we do and damn if we don’t attitude about speaking up about mental health. I have been told that speaking about it will lower chances of getting a job, people will judge you etc.
Well it’s true if you posted very negative things and that you are always suffering, there can be these consequences. That needs to change.
However if your posting how you over came your mental illness and sharing your story once your healed and in a good spot , then there is no shame in this and quite frankly what does it matter if you have mental issue if you healthy and functioning with it. If a employer is going to have a problem because you over come a mental health disorder or you can handle it and it’s not affecting your work, do you really want to work for a company like that ? I would not even entertain that idea.
If your scared of loosing friends and supportive family members then it’s time re-evaluate your tribe. Your tribe should know and support you!
Speaking out can heal you and help others by realizing suffering is universal and we all suffer, but we all in our own unique ways can get over it. It’s hard work, but worth it. 💕 We need more positive stories of mental health and people advocating for those who have it, especially for our next generation. We need to be strong for the people who can’t be strong in the moment and guide them to find their inner strength to over coming mental illness.
I have started that is partly why this blog is here, so any reading the posts on MH if anything feels less a lone.
